Revanth Reddy Meets Governor as Azharuddin’s Ministerial Future Faces Uncertainty
Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy meets Governor seeking approval for MLC nominations as Azharuddin faces a constitutional deadline that could impact his continuation as minister this month

- Azharuddin faces deadline under Article 164 4 rule
- Governor decision crucial for Azharuddin minister post
In a key political development in Telangana, Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy met Governor Jishnu Dev Varma on Sunday to push for approval of pending nominations under the Governor’s quota for the Legislative Council. The meeting comes amid growing urgency over the political future of Mohammed Azharuddin.
The Chief Minister urged the Governor to clear the names of Professor Kodandaram and Azharuddin for MLC positions. The request gains significance as Azharuddin, who is currently serving as a minister without being a member of either House, is nearing the constitutional deadline to secure a legislative seat.
Under Article 164(4) of the Indian Constitution, a person appointed as a minister must become a member of the विधानसभा or Legislative Council within six months. Azharuddin, who took oath as minister on October 31, 2025, will complete the six month period by the end of this month. If he fails to enter either House by then, he may be required to step down from his ministerial post.
The delay in clearing Governor quota nominations has been attributed to earlier legal disputes and administrative changes, including the appointment of a new Governor. The state government is now actively engaging with the Governor to resolve the pending approvals and avoid a constitutional complication.
If the Governor does not approve the nomination in time, the government may explore alternative routes to secure Azharuddin’s entry into the Legislative Council, including local bodies or MLA quota seats. However, if all options fail before the deadline, Azharuddin could be forced to relinquish his ministerial responsibilities.
The outcome of the Governor’s decision is expected to play a decisive role in determining the immediate political course for both the state government and Azharuddin.
