In a significant move to take direct control of urban transport infrastructure, the Telangana government has constituted a high level committee to oversee the operations of the Hyderabad Metro Rail. The decision comes after the state assumed full ownership by acquiring one hundred percent equity previously held by L and T.

The committee will be chaired by Chief Secretary Ramkrishna Rao, marking a shift toward tighter administrative supervision of the metro network. Officials indicate that this step is aimed at ensuring smoother operations, financial stability, and long term planning for the city’s rapid transit system.

Alongside the formation of the committee, key appointments have also been announced to strengthen governance. Senior bureaucrats including Jayesh Ranjan, Vikas Raj, Sultanian, and DGP Shivdhar Reddy have been named as directors, bringing administrative and operational expertise to the metro’s management structure.

The government’s decision to take over the entire equity from L and T signals a strategic shift in how large scale infrastructure projects are handled in the state. Officials believe that direct ownership will enable better coordination, improved service delivery, and more accountability in the functioning of the metro system.

Hyderabad Metro Rail is a crucial component of the city’s public transport network, serving thousands of commuters daily. With the new committee in place, the government is expected to focus on operational efficiency, passenger experience, and future expansion of the metro corridors.
