In a significant development in the Sushant Singh Rajput case, a Mumbai special court has granted major relief to actress Rhea Chakraborty and her family by ordering the defreezing of their bank accounts. The accounts had been frozen since 2020 during the investigation into alleged drug related links.

The court’s decision came after fresh petitions were filed by Rhea Chakraborty, her brother Showik Chakraborty, and their mother Sandhya Chakraborty seeking access to accounts held in multiple banks. While some accounts had been released earlier, the family requested the court to lift restrictions on the remaining ones as well.

During the hearing, the defense argued that the Narcotics Control Bureau failed to comply with mandatory provisions under the NDPS Act. They pointed out that as per legal requirements, authorities must obtain confirmation from a competent authority within a fixed time frame after freezing assets.

Opposing the plea, the agency maintained that the action was justified, claiming Rhea Chakraborty’s alleged involvement in a drug network. However, the court observed procedural lapses in how the rules were implemented.

Special judge U C Deshmukh noted that the required confirmation was not secured within the stipulated 30 day period as mandated under the law. With the agency acknowledging this lapse, the court ruled in favor of the petitioners and allowed the defreezing of the accounts.

The order marks a key moment in the ongoing legal proceedings, bringing temporary relief to the actress and her family after years of financial restrictions linked to the high profile investigation.
