Madras High Court Dismisses Petition Seeking Probe Into Vijay Election Affidavit
Madras High Court rejects plea seeking probe into actor Vijay election affidavit, citing grounds for dismissal, while another petition over undisclosed financial details remains under judicial consideration.

- Madras High Court rejects Vijay election affidavit probe petition without ordering investigation.
- Petition alleges Vijay election affidavit contains incorrect financial disclosures and hidden details.
- Another Vijay election affidavit case on undisclosed assets is still pending in court.
The Madras High Court has refused to entertain a petition that sought a detailed investigation into the election affidavit filed by actor Vijay for the upcoming 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections. The court dismissed the plea at the admission stage itself, offering relief to the actor turned politician.
The petition raised concerns over the financial disclosures made by Vijay in his nomination documents. The petitioner alleged that the affidavit contained inaccurate information and failed to present a complete picture of his financial position, which is mandatory under election laws.
According to the plea, Vijay had reportedly declared that he had no outstanding liabilities, while at the same time mentioning that he had extended loans worth several crores to family members and related entities. This contradiction, the petitioner argued, raised serious questions about the authenticity of the affidavit.
The case was heard by a bench led by Chief Justice Sanjay V Gangapurwala along with Justice Arul Murugan. After reviewing the submissions, the bench chose not to proceed further and dismissed the petition without issuing any direction for investigation.
The petitioner had also requested that authorities such as the Election Commission, Income Tax Department, and Ministry of Corporate Affairs be directed to conduct a preliminary inquiry. He claimed that incomplete disclosures could mislead voters and violate their right to informed decision making.
Despite this dismissal, legal scrutiny around Vijay’s affidavit is not entirely over. Another petition on similar grounds is already under consideration before the High Court. That case reportedly involves allegations of non disclosure of financial details exceeding Rs 100 crore, and notices have been issued to relevant authorities earlier this month.
Vijay, who founded the Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam party in 2024, is contesting from key constituencies including Perambur and Tiruchi East in the upcoming elections.
