  • Class 10 exams scheduled from March 15 to March 31
  • Academic calendar discussed with teachers unions

The upcoming academic year will see schools functioning for 229 days, according to School Education Commissioner Tameer Ansaria, who held detailed discussions with teacher unions on the academic calendar.

During the meeting at the commissionerate, officials outlined that out of 316 working days, 87 days would be allocated for holidays, leaving 229 instructional days for students. The schedule aims to balance academic requirements with necessary breaks across the year.

As per the plan, Class 10 public examinations will be conducted from March 15 to March 31. A series of internal assessments and exams have also been scheduled, including formative and summative tests spread across different months to monitor student progress.

The calendar includes major holiday breaks such as Dasara in October, Sankranti in January, and Christmas holidays for specific institutions. Authorities said the structure is designed to ensure continuity in learning while accommodating cultural and seasonal needs.

Teacher unions, however, raised several concerns during the discussions. They pointed out issues related to exam scheduling, student assessment patterns, and workload on teachers. Suggestions were made to revise certain test formats and align exam papers with student learning levels.

Union representatives also requested changes in planning schedules, especially to avoid clashes with festivals and Sundays. Concerns were highlighted about overlapping timelines between Class 9 academic activities and Class 10 public examinations.

Another issue raised was regarding large scale parent teacher meetings, with unions urging that such events should remain focused on education rather than becoming broader public programs.

Officials assured that feedback from teachers would be considered before finalizing the academic calendar, aiming to create a practical and student friendly schedule for the coming year.
