Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has directed officials to prepare a strong action plan to tackle the growing threat of cyber and financial crimes across Andhra Pradesh. During a high level review meeting held at the Secretariat, the Chief Minister discussed the alarming rise in online fraud cases and the urgent need for tighter coordination between police and banking institutions.
Officials informed the Chief Minister that the state has received nearly 9.29 lakh complaints through the national cybercrime helpline number 1930. Victims across Andhra Pradesh have reportedly lost around Rs 652 crore to various forms of cyber fraud, exposing the scale of the crisis. Authorities highlighted that investment scams have emerged as the biggest financial threat, while phishing, vishing, online loan frauds, credit card scams and digital arrest frauds are also trapping innocent people.
Despite the rising number of complaints, officials said the CID Cyber Crime division and banking authorities managed to prevent losses of more than Rs 116 crore by responding quickly during the crucial golden hour period. This coordinated response helped stop several fraudulent transactions before the money reached criminal accounts.
During the meeting, Chandrababu stressed that stronger cooperation between police departments and banks is essential to stop cybercriminals from exploiting public bank accounts. He also instructed officials to formulate a comprehensive Andhra Pradesh Cyber Policy aimed at strengthening cyber security and improving investigation systems.
Senior officials explained that a dedicated Cyber Crime Investigation Unit is already functioning under the CID at the state level. Special cyber police stations have also been established in Vijayawada, Visakhapatnam and Tirupati to improve response and investigation capabilities.
The review meeting was attended by senior ministers, police officials, IT department representatives, forensic experts and banking authorities, who shared suggestions on improving cyber crime prevention measures across the state.
