Pharmacy associations across India reported a strong response to a nationwide one day strike organized against the growing sale of medicines through online platforms. The protest was conducted to highlight concerns over the increasing expansion of medicine sales without what they describe as adequate checks and controls.

According to representatives of the All India Chemists and Druggists Union, members from different parts of the country actively participated in the shutdown and supported the movement. Leaders of the organization stated that the response reflected widespread concern among licensed pharmacy owners and medicine distributors.

Despite the strike, the association said efforts were made to ensure that patients requiring urgent and essential medicines did not face serious difficulties. Organizers explained that humanitarian considerations remained important while carrying out the protest.

Union representatives also stated that memorandums regarding their concerns were submitted through district officials and administrative authorities for further consideration. The association wants greater attention toward regulations governing medicine sales through digital platforms.

Pharmacy owners argue that medicines are being sold online with large discounts and without sufficient monitoring in some cases, which they believe is creating financial pressure on licensed chemists and druggists across the country.

Industry representatives said the issue affects a large number of businesses and are seeking stronger regulatory measures that ensure fair practices while also protecting public health interests.
