The Telangana government has announced a major relief measure for farmers by allocating substantial funds for the procurement of jowar and maize crops across the state. The decision is expected to provide support to growers dealing with large scale production and market concerns.
Agriculture Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao shared details of the latest allocations and said the government has sanctioned Rs 1800 crore for maize procurement and Rs 1100 crore for jowar procurement. According to him, the state stepped forward after the Centre did not respond to requests regarding maize procurement.
The minister stated that Chief Minister Revanth Reddy took the decision with the aim of protecting farmers and ensuring they do not face difficulties due to high crop output. He said the government wants farmers to receive timely support during the procurement process.
Tummala also revealed that Rs 4000 crore had already been released earlier for maize procurement and with the latest allocation, the total amount has now reached Rs 5800 crore. Officials have been instructed to immediately complete procurement arrangements in all districts to avoid delays.
The government also indicated support for sunflower farmers. The minister said Chief Minister Revanth Reddy directed officials to increase procurement beyond 25 percent so that more farmers could benefit from government assistance.
