Rare Weber Christian Disease Treated Successfully by KIMS Doctors
Doctors at KIMS Hospital saved a Hyderabad woman suffering from a rare Weber Christian disease after severe liver failure threatened her life and required advanced treatment support.

Doctors at KIMS Hospital in Secunderabad successfully treated a 26 year old Hyderabad woman suffering from an extremely rare medical condition known as Weber Christian Disease. The case gained attention because only a small number of such cases have been identified worldwide and the patient’s condition had reached a life threatening stage.
The young woman was admitted in critical condition after experiencing severe fever, jaundice and complications that later affected her brain function. Medical examinations showed that her liver had almost completely stopped functioning, pushing doctors into an emergency situation where a liver transplant was initially being considered.
Doctors revealed that the condition became more complex after discovering an uncontrolled immune response called Macrophage Activation Syndrome, a dangerous inflammatory condition that can severely damage vital organs. According to medical experts, liver failure directly linked to Weber Christian Syndrome has been documented in only a handful of cases around the world.
The woman had first been diagnosed with the rare disease in 2018 after repeatedly suffering from painful lumps in her arms and legs along with recurring high fever. At that time doctors managed to control the condition with treatment and her health had remained stable for several years.
As her condition worsened this year, a team of specialists from rheumatology, hepatology, liver transplant intensive care and critical care departments worked together to provide treatment. She was placed on ventilator support and doctors began therapies aimed at stabilizing her immune system and liver function.
The turning point came after specialists arranged a rare medication called Anakinra from overseas. Shortly after the medicine was administered, doctors observed a gradual reduction in inflammation and improvement in liver function. The response surprised even specialists involved in the treatment process.
Within days, the patient’s health showed significant recovery and doctors were able to remove her from ventilator support. She was later discharged from the hospital in stable condition without requiring a liver transplant.
Medical experts described the successful treatment as a remarkable achievement and a major moment in handling one of the world’s rarest medical conditions.
