Students studying in government degree colleges across the state are set to receive a major boost as the higher education department has introduced new apprenticeship integrated degree programs for the 2026 to 2027 academic year. Under the new initiative, students in their final year will receive practical workplace training along with a monthly stipend of Rs 7000.

The move has been designed with the objective of improving employability among graduates and ensuring students gain industry experience before completing their education. Officials said the program aims to bridge the gap between classroom learning and real world work requirements.

College Education Commissioner Sridevasena officially announced the details during a media interaction held along with IIT Hyderabad Director Professor BS Murthy and CII education advisor Shekhar Reddy. The department stated that students enrolling in these three year programs will spend their final year working directly with industries, corporate firms and government linked institutions as part of hands on training.

Authorities believe the program could significantly improve employment outcomes. The government is targeting job placements for nearly 80 to 90 percent of students who successfully complete their apprenticeship training. As part of this initiative, agreements with major industries and companies are expected to be signed in the presence of Chief Minister Revanth Reddy on June 12.

The department has also increased available seats for these courses. Last year, around 6000 seats were offered under 16 different programs, but only 1770 students enrolled. To encourage greater participation, an additional 5000 seats have been added this year, increasing the total number to 11000 seats. Officials are aiming to fill at least 8000 of them.

Admissions for these programs will be available through the Degree Online Services Telangana platform. According to officials, a total of 27 apprenticeship embedded courses will be offered across 94 government degree colleges in the state.

Several new courses have also been added based on current market trends and industry demand. In the science stream, programs include Electronics Manufacturing Services, E Mobility and Battery Technology, Consumer Electronics and IT Hardware, Food Processing and Technology, Fisheries and Aquaculture, Dairy and Poultry Management, Embedded Systems and Internet of Things, and Horticulture and Landscaping.

The commerce stream will include a Business Analytics course while arts students will have access to Animation and VFX along with Film and Television Production programs, expanding career choices for students looking for industry focused education.
