Canadian authorities have carried out a major operation against an alleged organized criminal network accused of targeting South Asian business communities through intimidation and extortion activities. The action resulted in the arrest of seventeen men believed to be connected to the case.

Investigators said growing incidents involving threats, violence and pressure tactics against local businesses had raised serious concern in recent months. To tackle the issue, Peel Regional Police formed a dedicated Extortion Task Force to closely monitor and investigate the pattern of crimes.

Officials stated that the investigation uncovered what appeared to be a coordinated network involved in pressuring business owners and demanding large sums of money. Authorities believe the group primarily focused on members of South Asian communities, including immigrant business owners operating in different areas.

Initial findings reportedly revealed links between several suspects and an organization identified as the Four Brothers criminal network. Police said the group is believed to have operations extending beyond Canada and into parts of the United States.

According to investigators, business owners who refused to cooperate were allegedly subjected to threats and in some cases physical attacks. Authorities are continuing efforts to determine the full extent of the network’s activities and identify other individuals possibly connected to the operation.

Police have produced the accused before the court and further investigations are continuing. Officials said the operation has brought relief to many business communities that had been dealing with fear and uncertainty.

Recent criminal incidents involving people of Indian origin in foreign countries have also raised concerns among sections of the Indian diaspora. Authorities, however, stressed that investigations are focused on criminal activity and individual involvement rather than community identity.
