Though jaggery is considered healthier than sugar because of its nutrients and natural properties experts say some people may face serious health problems after consuming it regularly.

Jaggery has long been a staple ingredient in Indian kitchens and traditional recipes. Many people prefer it over refined sugar because it contains minerals such as iron potassium and magnesium. It is often promoted as a natural sweetener that can support immunity and improve overall health. From tea and coffee to sweets and homemade drinks jaggery is widely used as a healthier alternative to sugar.
However health experts now say that jaggery may not be suitable for everyone. Despite its nutritional benefits excessive consumption can create health complications in certain individuals. Doctors believe people with specific medical conditions should be more cautious before adding jaggery to their daily diet.
People suffering from diabetes are among those who should avoid consuming jaggery regularly. A common misconception is that jaggery does not raise blood sugar levels like refined sugar. This may create problems for diabetic patients trying to manage their sugar levels.

Around 100 grams of jaggery can provide nearly 383 calories. Consuming it in large quantities during a weight loss diet may slow down progress and even contribute to weight gain.
People facing digestive problems should also limit jaggery consumption. Fresh jaggery is believed to have a warming effect on the body. In some cases it may worsen stomach discomfort or digestion related issues. Health professionals say children suffering from intestinal worm infections may also experience more irritation if jaggery is consumed excessively.
Kidney patients are another group advised to consume jaggery only after medical consultation. Jaggery contains potassium and sodium which may affect people with kidney disorders. Increased potassium levels in the body can sometimes create additional pressure on heart health in such patients.
Doctors also mention that people with excessive body heat should avoid eating too much jaggery especially during summer. Since jaggery naturally generates heat in the body overconsumption may lead to nosebleeds skin irritation or heat related discomfort in some individuals.
