Mango and Curd Combination May Trigger Digestive and Skin Problems During Summer

Health experts warn that mixing mangoes with curd during summer may disturb digestion, increase mucus formation and trigger skin related issues in sensitive individuals if consumed regularly together.

Mangoes and curd are among the most loved foods during the summer season. Many people enjoy combining sweet mango pieces with chilled curd or preparing drinks like mango smoothies and mango lassi to beat the heat. While this combination tastes refreshing and delicious, health experts say it may not always suit the body, especially for people with sensitive digestion or respiratory problems.

According to Ayurveda and several traditional food practices, certain food combinations may negatively affect digestion when consumed together. Mango and curd are often considered one such incompatible pairing because both foods have completely different properties and effects on the body. Experts believe that eating them together regularly may lead to digestive discomfort and other health related issues.

One major concern linked to this combination is slow digestion. Mango is considered a heat producing fruit, while curd naturally cools the body. When foods with opposite properties are consumed together, the digestive system may struggle to process them properly. This can sometimes result in bloating, gas formation, acidity and stomach heaviness, especially in people who already face digestive troubles.

Health specialists also warn that this combination may increase the buildup of toxins in the body due to improper digestion. When food is not digested efficiently, it can leave behind waste substances that may affect overall health. Some people may experience nausea, uneasiness or stomach irritation after consuming mango based curd drinks frequently.

Skin related problems are another concern highlighted by experts. Some Ayurveda practitioners believe that combining mangoes with curd can disturb the balance of body elements associated with heat and mucus production. This imbalance may lead to acne breakouts, itchy skin, rashes and excessive oil production on the face in certain individuals.

People dealing with cold, cough, sinus congestion or asthma are also advised to be cautious. Since curd is believed to increase mucus formation in the body, pairing it with sweet fruits like mangoes may worsen respiratory discomfort in sensitive people. Doctors often suggest avoiding such combinations during seasonal infections or weather changes.

Despite these concerns, both mangoes and curd are individually considered highly nutritious foods. Mangoes are rich in vitamins and antioxidants, while curd supports gut health and provides calcium and protein. Experts say the safest approach is to consume them separately instead of mixing them together in large quantities.

Nutritionists generally recommend keeping a gap of at least 30 to 45 minutes between eating mangoes and consuming curd or buttermilk. This allows the digestive system enough time to process each food properly and may help reduce the risk of discomfort.

While occasional consumption may not affect everyone, people with sensitive stomachs, frequent skin allergies or breathing related conditions may benefit from avoiding this popular summer combination.
