Guv,CM greet people on ‘Malayalam New Year’

Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala Governor Arif Mohammed Khan and Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Wednesday greeted Malayalees around the world on the occasion of the beginning of the Malayalam New Year.

In a message, the Governor said: “I greet Keralites all over the world on the 1st day of Malayalam month ‘Chingam’, marking the auspicious start of Malayalam year 1198 and celebrated as Farmers Day. May the New Year bring prosperity, happiness, and joy to everyone.”

The Chief Minister said: “The first day of ‘Chingam’ is celebrated as Farmers Day marking the occasion to celebrate our agricultural heritage and share new ideas for the prosperity of the agricultural sector.”

Saying that the farmers in the country were going through several difficulties, he said massive agitations are taking place across the country against the neo-liberal policies ignoring the interest of farmers. “We should come forward to support farmers and unite them.”

He also called upon people to support and make plans for popular alternative agricultural policies for the betterment of farmers.
