The national HPV vaccination programme received a formal launch on Saturday as Narendra Modi inaugurated the initiative during his visit to Ajmer in Rajasthan. The programme is designed to curb the risk of cervical cancer among adolescent girls through early immunisation.

Speaking at the event, the Prime Minister interacted with students and highlighted the importance of preventive healthcare. The vaccination drive will cover girls who are fourteen years old and below fifteen, a key age group identified for effective prevention of cervical cancer.

From today, nurses and healthcare workers will begin administering the HPV vaccine at government-run medical facilities across the country. The programme is being implemented simultaneously in all states and Union Territories, ensuring wide and uniform coverage.

According to officials, around one point one five crore girls will receive the vaccine free of cost. Immunisation services will be provided at Ayushman Arogya Kendras, community health centres, sub district and district hospitals, as well as government medical colleges and hospitals.

Health authorities say the initiative marks a major step in strengthening women’s health and reducing long-term cancer risk through timely vaccination and awareness.
