Indian Railways is preparing to introduce the next generation of Amrit Bharat trains, marking a significant step in upgrading budget friendly long distance travel. The upcoming Amrit Bharat 3.0 version is designed as an improved model over the existing services that currently run with non AC coaches.
Unlike earlier versions, the new Amrit Bharat 3.0 trains will include AC coaches along with sleeper and general compartments. Officials said the trains are being designed to run at speeds of up to 130 kilometres per hour and will feature locomotives on both ends to improve operational efficiency and reduce travel time.
Manufacturing of the new trains is underway at the Integral Coach Factory in Chennai. Once production is completed, the rakes will undergo testing and certification before being cleared for passenger service. Railway authorities are targeting an April launch subject to successful trials and approvals.
At present, Amrit Bharat 1.0 and 2.0 trains operate on multiple routes across the country. With the introduction of version 3.0, Indian Railways aims to offer a more comfortable experience while keeping fares accessible for common passengers.
