Centre Issues Notification to Oil and Gas Companies for Mandatory Data Reporting
The central government directs oil and gas companies to submit detailed operational data to strengthen monitoring of production, imports, storage and consumption for better management of the energy sector.

- Centre notification mandates oil and gas data reporting.
- Oil and gas companies to share production and import data.
- Centre aims to monitor oil and gas supply efficiently.
In a move aimed at strengthening oversight of the energy sector, the central government has issued a notification directing oil and gas companies to regularly submit detailed operational data. The step is intended to improve transparency and streamline monitoring of the supply chain.
According to the notification, companies involved in production, refining, importing and distribution of petroleum products and natural gas must report key information at fixed intervals. This includes data related to production volumes, imports, storage levels and consumption patterns.
The Petroleum Planning and Analysis Cell has been designated as the central agency responsible for collecting and analysing the submitted data. Officials said the agency will play a crucial role in building a comprehensive database to support policy decisions.
The government stated that the initiative is being implemented in the public interest, with the aim of creating a more efficient and responsive system to track the movement and availability of petroleum and natural gas across the country.
By introducing a centralised reporting mechanism, authorities expect better coordination within the sector and improved ability to respond to fluctuations in supply and demand. The move is also seen as a step toward enhancing energy security and ensuring smoother functioning of the oil and gas ecosystem.
