A major security breach at the Delhi Assembly created panic on Monday afternoon after a car rammed into the main gate and entered the high security premises, raising serious concerns over safety arrangements in the national capital.
The incident took place around 2 pm when a speeding vehicle with a Uttar Pradesh registration number drove towards the Assembly. Before security personnel could react, the car crashed into Gate Number 2, breaking through the iron barricades and forcing its way inside.
Despite the presence of CRPF personnel at the VIP entrance, the sudden and high speed entry left little time to stop the vehicle. The masked driver managed to bypass security and move deeper into the premises, leaving officials stunned.
According to initial reports, the individual drove straight towards the office of Assembly Speaker Vijender Gupta. The car was briefly stopped near the veranda, where the person placed a bouquet before quickly turning the vehicle around and fleeing the scene.
The unusual act triggered immediate alarm among staff and officials present at the site. Security agencies, including the bomb squad and police teams, rushed to the location and thoroughly examined the bouquet to rule out any threat.
After inspection, authorities confirmed that no suspicious or explosive material was found, bringing some relief. However, the incident has exposed significant lapses in security at one of the most sensitive locations in the city.
Police have launched an investigation to identify the driver and determine the motive behind the act. The breach has prompted calls for a review of security protocols to prevent such incidents in the future.
