Goa Congress Leader Ketan Bhatikar Dies After Snakebite Incident

Ketan Bhatikar, a prominent face of the Goa Congress during the recently cancelled Ponda Assembly by election, died after suffering a snakebite near the Goa Karnataka border. Police officials confirmed the incident on Friday, leaving political leaders and supporters shocked by the sudden loss.

The 38 year old leader was reportedly travelling towards Dandeli village in Karnataka on Thursday night when the tragedy occurred. According to police, Bhatikar got down from his vehicle near Karmal Ghat for reasons that are still unclear. During that time, he was bitten by a snake.

He was immediately rushed to a primary health centre in Dharbandora, Goa, where doctors declared him dead on arrival. Authorities said further details regarding the exact circumstances are still being examined.

Bhatikar had recently gained political attention after being named the Congress candidate for the Ponda Assembly by election, which was later cancelled following a High Court verdict. He had challenged the court order by filing a special leave petition in the Supreme Court, and the matter is currently pending.

Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant expressed grief over Bhatikar’s death and described it as a major loss to the medical field. In a message shared on social media, Sawant said he was deeply saddened by the untimely demise of the noted physiotherapist and conveyed condolences to the family.

Opposition leader Yuri Alemao also mourned the death and said the sudden tragedy had left many people in shock. Arvind Kejriwal, who is currently touring Goa, also paid tribute and extended sympathies to Bhatikar’s family and supporters.
