Semiconductors To UPI India Malaysia Sign 11 Major Agreements

Prime Minister Narendra Modi concluded a high profile visit to Malaysia with both nations signing a series of major agreements aimed at deepening economic and technological cooperation. The visit marked Modi first trip to Malaysia after bilateral ties were elevated to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in August 2024.

A key outcome of the talks was a firm commitment to strengthen collaboration in the semiconductor sector. Malaysia is among the world leading exporters of semiconductors and the industry contributes nearly a quarter of its economy. Leaders from both sides agreed that closer cooperation in chip manufacturing and supply chains would benefit India growing technology ambitions and Malaysia export driven ecosystem.

Addressing the media in Putrajaya Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim described the agreements as strategic and forward looking. He said the decisions taken during the meetings would accelerate cooperation and translate commitments into action through close coordination between both governments.

Prime Minister Modi highlighted the importance of people to people ties as the foundation of India Malaysia friendship. He said initiatives such as the social security agreement free e visa facility for tourism and the introduction of UPI services in Malaysia would bring citizens of both countries closer and improve everyday connectivity.

Beyond semiconductors the two sides agreed to expand partnerships in artificial intelligence digital technologies renewable energy healthcare food security disaster management and peacekeeping. In total eleven agreements were signed during the visit reflecting the broad scope of cooperation.

Officials on both sides expressed confidence that the new pacts would boost trade investment and innovation while giving fresh momentum to the India Malaysia strategic relationship in a rapidly changing global environment.
