In a move aimed at easing congestion at railway stations, Indian Railways has rolled out a new portable ticketing system that allows passengers to obtain tickets within seconds. The initiative is expected to significantly reduce long queues at ticket counters.

The service has been introduced at Kacheguda railway station in the Hyderabad division as part of a pilot rollout. Officials confirmed that the facility will soon be extended to other major stations, including Secunderabad and Nampally, in a phased manner.

Under this system, passengers no longer need to stand in line at ticket counters for unreserved tickets. Instead, ticket examiners equipped with portable machines can issue tickets instantly at station entry points. This is particularly useful for last minute travelers who often risk missing trains due to delays at counters.

The machines are designed using advanced thermal printing technology, enabling quick ticket generation. They can print tickets at high speed, ensuring minimal waiting time for passengers. Payments can be made through digital modes such as UPI as well as cash, making the system accessible to a wide range of users.

Apart from unreserved tickets, these machines also allow passengers to purchase platform tickets and MMTS tickets, adding to their utility. Officials said the system is integrated with existing railway apps, allowing seamless operation by staff.

Railway authorities noted that overcrowding at ticket counters has been a persistent issue, especially at busy stations like Kacheguda, which handles thousands of passengers daily. With over 120 trains and multiple MMTS services operating, the demand for quick ticketing solutions has been high.

The introduction of portable ticket machines is expected to streamline passenger movement, improve efficiency, and enhance the overall travel experience. Officials believe this technology driven step will make railway travel more convenient, especially during peak hours.
