A quiet morning at a law college in Punjab’s Tarn Taran district turned into a scene of panic when gunshots rang out inside a classroom, leaving one student dead and another battling for life. What began as a regular day of classes quickly descended into chaos as shocked classmates scrambled for safety.

Police said the accused, identified as Prince Raj, a first year law student, allegedly brought a pistol into the classroom and fired at his classmate Sandeep Kaur. The attack happened before the lecture began, catching everyone off guard. Students nearby froze in disbelief as the incident unfolded within seconds.

After shooting Kaur at close range, Raj reportedly used the same weapon to shoot himself inside the classroom. Teachers and students rushed to help while authorities were alerted immediately. The young woman died on the spot, while Raj, critically injured, was taken to a nearby hospital for emergency treatment.

Both students were enrolled in the same first year course at a law college located in the village of Usma. Friends said they had seen them attend classes like any other day, making the sudden violence even harder to comprehend.

A senior police officer confirmed that initial findings suggest the shooting was carried out inside the classroom before the session started. However, the reason behind the attack remains unclear. Investigators are now speaking to students, faculty and family members to piece together what might have led to such an extreme act.

The campus, usually filled with routine academic chatter, was left shaken. Many students were seen in tears, unable to process what had happened to their classmates. College authorities suspended classes for the day and urged students to stay calm.

Police have registered a case and begun a detailed investigation. Officers said the motive will become clear only after further questioning and forensic examination.

For the families involved, the tragedy has brought unimaginable grief, turning a place of learning into the site of a heartbreaking loss that few on campus will forget anytime soon.
