Residents of Gujarat’s Navsari district experienced mild tremors early Thursday morning after an earthquake struck the region. The quake measured 3.4 on the Richter scale and occurred at around 5.27 am, with its epicenter located about 22 kilometers east southeast of Vansda.
Despite the sudden tremor, officials confirmed that there were no reports of damage to property or loss of life. The low intensity of the earthquake meant that its impact remained minimal, though it briefly caused concern among locals.
Gujarat falls under a high seismic risk zone, making such tremors a reminder of the region’s vulnerability. According to the Gujarat State Disaster Management Authority, the state has witnessed several significant earthquakes over the past two centuries.
One of the most devastating among them was the 2001 Kutch earthquake, which left a lasting mark on the state’s history. The powerful quake, which struck on January 26 in Bhachau with a magnitude of 6.9, resulted in the loss of around 13800 lives and left more than 167000 people injured.
Experts note that even minor tremors like the one in Navsari highlight the importance of preparedness and awareness in earthquake prone regions. While this incident caused no harm, it serves as a reminder of the need for constant vigilance and disaster readiness.
Authorities continue to monitor seismic activity in the region, urging residents to remain alert and follow safety guidelines in case of future events.
