Cab services across several Indian cities came to a halt on February seven as drivers working with Ola Uber and Rapido launched a nationwide strike under the banner of an all India breakdown. The sudden stoppage left thousands of commuters struggling for alternative transport during peak hours.

The protest was called by the Telangana Gig and Platform Workers Union which accused app based cab companies of steadily cutting driver earnings while continuing to post strong profits. Union leaders said many drivers are slipping into financial distress due to frequent fare changes and the absence of protective regulations.

Drivers argued that companies revise pricing policies unilaterally without consulting driver unions. They also alleged that the lack of clear government rules has allowed aggregators to shift risks entirely onto drivers while keeping commissions high.

As part of their demands the union submitted a representation to Nitin Gadkari seeking immediate government intervention. The letter called for fixed minimum fares for autos cabs and bike taxis enforcement against private white board vehicles operating as taxis and policy decisions to be taken only after consultations with driver associations.

Union representatives warned that if authorities fail to respond the agitation could intensify in the coming days. Until then passengers in several cities continue to face disruptions as app based cab platforms remain partially or fully unavailable.
