Security agencies have launched an extensive investigation after two separate explosions were reported within hours of each other in Punjab’s Amritsar and Jalandhar districts late on Tuesday night.

The first blast was reported near the Border Security Force Punjab Frontier headquarters in Jalandhar, while another explosion occurred later near the army cantonment area in Khasa locality of Amritsar. Officials confirmed that no injuries or casualties were reported in either incident.

Following the explosions, the National Investigation Agency stepped in to support the Punjab Police in collecting evidence and examining the circumstances surrounding the incidents. Sources said NIA teams were dispatched to both locations to assist forensic experts and security officials on the ground.

Police officials immediately increased surveillance in sensitive areas after the blasts. In Amritsar, authorities temporarily restricted movement around Khasa as bomb disposal teams and forensic experts carried out inspections at the site.

According to senior police officials, the explosion near the cantonment area in Amritsar took place around 10.50 pm. Security personnel and local police teams rushed to the area soon after receiving alerts from residents.

Bomb disposal squads later searched the surroundings while forensic science teams collected samples and other materials for examination. Investigators are currently trying to determine the exact nature and source of the explosions.

The incidents also triggered political reactions in Punjab. Several opposition leaders expressed concern over the back to back blasts and questioned whether the incidents could be linked to attempts to create unrest in the state.

Congress leader Raj Kumar alleged that the timing of the explosions raised suspicion and demanded stronger action from both the state and Central governments to ensure public safety.

Leader of Opposition Partap Singh Bajwa described the incidents as serious and urged the Punjab government to quickly identify those responsible. He said repeated security incidents could increase anxiety among people already dealing with economic and employment related challenges.

Punjab Congress President Amarinder Singh Raja Warring also called the blasts deeply concerning and stressed the need for accountability and strict security measures.

Meanwhile, police officials said investigations are continuing and further details would be known after forensic reports and intelligence assessments are completed.
