The Lok Sabha descended into disorder during the fifth day of the Budget Session after opposition leader Rahul Gandhi raised the Doklam issue, triggering angry reactions from the treasury benches and stalling proceedings.

The flashpoint came during the debate on the motion of thanks to the President’s address, when BJP MP Tejasvi Surya made allegations that drew a sharp rebuttal from Rahul Gandhi. In responding, Rahul referred to statements attributed to former Army Chief General Manoj Mukund Naravane, a move that immediately escalated tensions inside the House.

Rahul Gandhi read out excerpts said to be from Naravane’s yet to be published memoir, claiming they mentioned Chinese military movement near the Doklam tri junction close to Sikkim. According to Rahul, the account spoke of Chinese tanks entering Indian territory and occupying a strategic ridge, remarks that sparked uproar across party lines.

Before he could complete his intervention, senior ministers including Amit Shah, Rajnath Singh, and Kiren Rijiju rose in protest. They rejected the claims outright and accused the opposition leader of misleading Parliament with unverified material.

Rajnath Singh objected strongly to the citation of content from an unpublished book, stating that referencing sensitive defence related matters without authentication was irresponsible. He demanded that Rahul Gandhi clarify the credibility and source of the material placed on record.

As both sides traded sharp accusations, the House was overwhelmed by shouting and counter slogans. Despite repeated appeals by the Speaker to restore order, the disruptions continued, leaving parliamentary business paralysed.

With tempers flaring and no consensus in sight, proceedings were eventually adjourned, marking yet another stormy episode in a session already marked by intense political confrontation over national security and foreign policy issues.
