Indian institutions have made a strong impact in the QS World Rankings 2026, with several universities securing impressive global positions across multiple disciplines. Among them, IIT Delhi has emerged as a standout performer by entering the prestigious top 50 globally.
IIT Delhi achieved remarkable rankings in key engineering streams, including Electrical Engineering at 36, Mechanical Engineering at 44, Computer Science at 45, and Chemical Engineering at 48. These achievements reinforce its position as one of India’s leading engineering institutions on the global stage.
The rankings, compiled by UK based Quacquarelli Symonds, evaluated over 1900 institutions from more than 100 countries. More than 21000 academic programs across 55 subjects and five faculty areas were assessed, making it one of the most comprehensive global education rankings.
India’s presence in the top 50 has significantly increased, with as many as 27 institutions securing positions. Prominent names such as IIT Bombay, IIT Kharagpur, IIT Madras, Jawaharlal Nehru University, and BITS Pilani also featured in the rankings.
In the field of business and management studies, IIM Ahmedabad secured an impressive 21st position globally in business management and marketing. Similarly, the Indian School of Mines in Dhanbad achieved the 21st rank in mining engineering, reflecting excellence in specialized domains.
Telangana also marked its presence with IIT Hyderabad showing notable improvement. The institute climbed to 395th position globally in engineering and technology rankings for 2026, a significant jump from its previous ranking band of 501 to 550. It also secured positions in nine subjects, with six engineering disciplines ranking within the top 300 worldwide.
Hyderabad Central University gained international recognition in seven subjects, including linguistics, English literature, sociology, political science, chemistry, economics, and biological sciences.
Overall, the QS World Rankings 2026 highlight the growing global competitiveness of Indian higher education institutions, driven by advancements in academic quality, research output, and subject wise excellence.
