Congress leader and Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi launched sharp criticism against Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the recently finalised India United States trade deal, calling it a hurried compromise driven by external pressure.

Speaking to reporters outside Parliament in New Delhi, Rahul Gandhi questioned how an agreement stalled for nearly four months was suddenly cleared overnight. He alleged that the Prime Minister gave in to pressure from the United States, led earlier by Donald Trump, and accused the government of placing farmer interests at risk to protect its political image.

Rahul Gandhi claimed the Prime Minister was acting out of fear that his global image could suffer. He linked the urgency behind the deal to ongoing controversies in the United States, including legal issues involving industrialist Gautam Adani and the continued secrecy around the Epstein files, alleging these factors had increased pressure on the Indian leadership.

The Congress leader also expressed frustration over being denied the opportunity to speak in the Lok Sabha. Referring to debates surrounding former Army chief M M Naravane’s autobiography, Rahul Gandhi said the government blocked discussion and prevented the opposition from raising verified concerns on the floor of the House.

He described the situation as unprecedented, arguing that refusing an opposition leader the right to speak during the President’s address debate undermines parliamentary tradition. According to him, the country deserves clarity on why the trade deal was rushed and whose interests it ultimately serves.
