India is preparing for a grand Republic Day celebration in 2026 with organisers promising a powerful mix of history national pride and modern ambition. The main event will take place at Kartavya Path in New Delhi on January 26 under the supervision of the Ministry of Defence.
Officials say this year’s celebrations will place special focus on the legacy of Vande Mataram marking one hundred and fifty years since its creation. The theme will be reflected across cultural performances parade visuals official invitations and public decorations across the country.
One of the major highlights will be the participation of European Council President Antonio Costa and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen as chief guests. Their presence is expected to underline India’s growing diplomatic engagement with Europe and its expanding global partnerships.
For the first time the Indian Army will present a battle array formation during the parade. The military segment will include marching contingents mechanised columns advanced weapon systems drones tanks and missile platforms offering a clear view of India’s defence capabilities.
The Air Force flypast will conclude the parade with aircraft and helicopters flying in multiple formations. A special tableau honouring former service personnel will also be part of the procession recognising their continued contribution to national security.
Around ten thousand special guests from across the country will attend the event including farmers scientists entrepreneurs students athletes artisans volunteers and beneficiaries of government schemes. Thirty tableaux from states union territories and central ministries will depict India’s culture innovation and self reliance.
Nearly two thousand five hundred artists will participate in cultural performances while parallel events such as Bharat Parv at Red Fort the National School Band Competition Project Veer Gatha five point zero and the Prime Minister NCC Rally will add to the celebrations. Authorities are also introducing e tickets free metro travel and public friendly arrangements to ensure smooth access for visitors.
