Patna, Bihar: Rail services on a busy route in Bihar were disrupted after a railway crossing gate was kept open for an extended time to facilitate the movement of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s convoy. The incident occurred in Samastipur district, causing inconvenience to hundreds of passengers.
The Chief Minister had arrived in Karpuri village to attend the 102nd birth anniversary celebrations of Bharat Ratna Jananayak Karpoori Thakur. After paying floral tributes at the leader’s statue and attending the programme, Nitish Kumar departed from the village, following which the convoy passed through a railway crossing near Karpuri Gram station.
To ensure uninterrupted movement of the convoy, railway staff were instructed not to close the crossing gate until the Chief Minister’s vehicles had passed. Police personnel were also deployed at the spot, and the gate reportedly remained open for around forty minutes.
As a result, train movement on the Samastipur Muzaffarpur section was affected. The Vaishali Express was held up at Samastipur station for nearly an hour, while the Shaheed Express faced a delay of about thirty minutes. The Tata Chhapra Express was also halted for close to an hour, and the Barauni Gondia Express reached late.
With platforms unavailable due to the backlog, the movement of a few other trains was also impacted. Passengers complained of discomfort and confusion, as many were left waiting without clear information about the delays caused by the convoy movement.
