Andhra Pradesh Police has taken a major step towards technology driven policing with the launch of the AI4AP Police project, marking a significant shift in how law enforcement functions across the state. The initiative focuses on using artificial intelligence to enhance investigations, public grievance handling, evidence collection and intelligence analysis.

The pilot phase of the project was formally inaugurated at the Andhra Pradesh Police Headquarters in Mangalagiri. As part of this initial rollout, the system has been introduced in Chittoor, Annamayya and Guntur districts. Officials said the performance of the pilot will guide the expansion of the project across the entire state within the next three to six months.

Unlike conventional digital upgrades, AI4AP Police has been designed specifically around policing needs. Over the past year, the department worked closely with technology experts to identify practical AI solutions that can support day to day police work. The tools were developed in collaboration with US based generative AI firm 4Sight AI Knowledge and its partner Sparity, following months of focused development.

The project brings together eight key AI driven tools under one integrated framework. These include systems that reduce the time taken to process public petitions, accelerate digital evidence collection from telecom and financial platforms, assist officers with data analysis, and provide legal guidance during investigations. Other tools help convert legacy records into digital data, monitor social media intelligence, track news trends, and support the overall AI infrastructure.

Senior police officials believe the impact of AI4AP Police will be felt not only in faster investigations but also in stronger cases built on high quality evidence. Director General of Police Harish Kumar Gupta said automation of routine tasks will free officers to focus more on maintaining law and order, while improved analysis will contribute to higher conviction rates.

Looking ahead, the police department is exploring the introduction of AI agents at individual police stations to further streamline operations. With the pilot already underway, the AI4AP Police project is being positioned as a foundation for future ready policing in Andhra Pradesh.
