The legal trouble surrounding Ambati Rambabu intensified on Sunday as a Guntur court ordered a 14 day judicial remand in connection with a case linked to his controversial remarks. Following the court directive, police transferred him to Rajahmundry Central Jail, where he will remain for the next two weeks.

The case stems from an incident in Guntur where political tensions flared over flex banners related to the Tirumala laddu ghee controversy. Rambabu had warned local party workers to remove the banners within a day. Later, after offering prayers at a temple, his vehicle was stopped by rival party supporters, leading to a heated confrontation on the road.

During the altercation, Rambabu allegedly made offensive comments targeting N Chandrababu Naidu. Videos of the remarks quickly spread on social media, escalating tensions. Despite police advising him to leave the area, the situation worsened, resulting in clashes and damage to property.

The incident triggered widespread protests by Telugu Desam Party supporters across the state. Attacks were reported on Rambabu’s residence and office in Guntur, forcing police to step in and restore order. Multiple complaints were filed at different police stations, leading to his arrest late Saturday night.

During the court hearing, Rambabu’s legal team argued that the charges did not warrant remand and claimed he had not committed any serious offence. Prosecutors countered that releasing him could disturb public order, citing several earlier cases involving similar allegations. After hearing both sides, the judge ruled in favour of judicial custody.

Rambabu requested to be lodged in Rajahmundry Central Jail, which the court approved. Meanwhile, the YSR Congress Party legal team is preparing to seek bail, even as the episode continues to fuel sharp political debate in Andhra Pradesh.
