AP CID Conducts Workshop on Gaming Laws to Tackle Illegal Betting

In a proactive move to tackle rising cyber related offences, the Andhra Pradesh CID conducted a focused workshop on gaming laws to strengthen enforcement against illegal betting activities.
The session was led by CID Director General of Police Dr Ravi Shankar Ayyanar, who highlighted the importance of continuous training for officers to keep pace with evolving online betting trends. He stressed that modern challenges require updated legal understanding and technical awareness.
The workshop centered on key legislations including the Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Act 2025 and the AP Gaming Amendment Act 2025. These laws aim to regulate online gaming activities and curb unlawful betting practices.
Legal expert and public policy specialist Rajaram Surianarayanan led the technical session, providing detailed insights into the legal framework. Around 50 CID officers, ranging from inspectors to senior officials, participated in the program.
Discussions also covered enforcement mechanisms, provisions under the Information Technology Act, and the increasing use of cryptocurrency in illegal betting transactions. Officials were briefed on how these emerging tools are being misused and the strategies required to counter them.
Several senior CID officers attended the workshop, reflecting the department’s focus on building capacity and improving coordination in handling cyber enabled crimes.
Authorities believe that such initiatives will enhance the preparedness of law enforcement agencies and help in effectively curbing illegal betting networks in the state.
