The recognition comes in the wake of a daring counter terrorism operation carried out on October 26, 2023, along the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir. Acting on intelligence inputs about terrorist movement in Kupwara district, the Army launched a search operation.
During the mission, Major Malla Ramgopal Naidu led his team with remarkable presence of mind. When terrorists opened fire after hiding inside local houses, he advanced without hesitation and engaged them at close range, neutralising three militants.
As the operation continued, another terrorist attempted to attack the team by throwing a grenade. Displaying sharp judgment under extreme pressure, Ramgopal Naidu evaded the blast and eliminated the attacker, ensuring the safety of his fellow soldiers and bringing the operation to a successful end.

With the announcement of the cash reward, the Andhra Pradesh government has reaffirmed its commitment to honouring national heroes whose bravery inspires the country.
