Andhra Pradesh is set to receive a significant infrastructure upgrade as the Union government clears funding for a new six lane highway that will directly connect Machilipatnam Port with key national highways. The move is expected to change the way cargo moves in and out of the region.

Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari announced that the Centre has sanctioned over Rs 573 crore for the project. The road will link the port to NH 65 and NH 216, creating a seamless corridor for heavy vehicles and freight traffic.

The new stretch is being planned as a full scale corridor with six main lanes, service roads, three flyovers and a railway overbridge. Officials say this design will reduce bottlenecks and allow uninterrupted movement of goods between the port and the highway network.

With direct connectivity, transport time for cargo is likely to come down sharply. Authorities believe the project will not only ease traffic congestion near the port area but also improve logistics efficiency for exporters and industries across the state.

The Centre has recently announced several development initiatives for Andhra Pradesh, including support for railway corridors, Amaravati and Polavaram projects and tourism plans. The Machilipatnam Port highway now adds another key piece to the state’s infrastructure push.

The target is to complete the road and make it operational by December 2026. Once ready, the corridor is expected to give a strong boost to port activity and attract more trade and investment to the coastal belt.

Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan thanked the Union government, calling the project a major step for the state’s growth. Minister Nara Lokesh also welcomed the decision, saying improved road access to the port would open new economic opportunities and strengthen Andhra Pradesh’s future.
