The lake restoration initiative led by Hydra is showing visible results in Hyderabad as two more lakes are set to open for the public after extensive redevelopment. The project aims to revive neglected water bodies in the city and transform them into clean and accessible public spaces.

Officials have announced that Bam Rukn Ud Daula Lake located in the Old City and Kukatpally Nalla Lake in the Kukatpally area are now ready for inauguration. Authorities are making arrangements for Chief Minister Revanth Reddy to formally open the lakes for visitors.

The Bam Rukn Ud Daula Lake, which has historical roots dating back to the Nizam era, has undergone major restoration work. The lake had gradually lost its identity due to encroachments and neglect over the years. Hydra authorities cleared illegal structures and revived the water body, restoring its original structure.

To make the area attractive and useful for the public, several facilities have been added around the lake. Walking tracks have been constructed along the embankments and an open gym has been installed for fitness enthusiasts. Fencing has been completed to protect the lake area and maintain cleanliness.

Play areas have been developed for children while benches have been placed across the premises to allow elderly visitors to relax and enjoy the surroundings. Entry pathways have also been created from three sides of the lake to improve accessibility for visitors.

Trees with medicinal value and shade providing plants have been planted around the lake to create a refreshing environment. CCTV cameras have been installed to monitor the premises with surveillance linked directly to the Hydra headquarters.

Meanwhile, Kukatpally Nalla Lake has also undergone a significant transformation. The lake, which was once filled with construction debris and waste, has been cleaned and restored. Large scale desilting operations were carried out to remove accumulated sludge and debris.

As a result of the restoration work, the lake area has expanded significantly. What had shrunk to around 16 acres earlier has now been restored to nearly 30 acres, bringing back its original water spread.

Hydra Commissioner AV Ranganath recently inspected the development works at the site. Officials said outlets have been strengthened to allow water to flow out safely when the lake fills during heavy rains.

A pathway stretching more than one kilometre has been developed around the lake, offering residents a pleasant walking space. Authorities believe the restored lake area will soon become a popular recreational spot for local residents.

The Hydra project earlier completed the restoration of Bathukamma Kunta in Amberpet which was opened to the public in September last year. With more lakes under development and additional restoration work planned in the next phase, the city administration hopes to revive several water bodies and improve urban ecology in Hyderabad.
