A major infrastructure project is set to improve travel between Telangana and Andhra Pradesh with the proposed construction of an iconic bridge across the Krishna River. The central government has approved the project with an estimated cost of about one thousand crore rupees.

The new bridge will connect Somashila in Nagarkurnool district of Telangana with Atmakur in Andhra Pradesh. Once completed the project is expected to significantly improve road connectivity between the two states and reduce the distance between Hyderabad and Tirupati by nearly eighty kilometres.

Officials said the Ministry of Environment and Forests has recently granted approval for the diversion of about sixty acres of forest land required for extending National Highway one hundred sixty seven as part of the project. This approval marks an important step forward for the long awaited infrastructure plan.

At the same time the forest department has issued strict conditions to protect wildlife in the region. Authorities have directed that necessary steps must be taken to safeguard animals that move through the forest areas. The project agency will also need to undertake compensatory plantation in another location to balance the use of forest land.

Officials further stated that the project authorities must deposit funds under the Net Present Value mechanism and strictly follow environmental protection guidelines. Only after ensuring compliance with these rules will the next stage of approvals be granted.

The bridge is expected to bring major benefits for travelers and tourists. By shortening the route between Hyderabad and Tirupati the project will help pilgrims reach the famous temple town more quickly and comfortably.

Improved connectivity may also boost tourism in nearby destinations such as the Nallamala forests Srisailam temple and Somashila Siddheswara temple. With better transport links between the two states the project is also expected to encourage trade business activities and employment opportunities in the surrounding regions.
