A devastating road accident in Gajuwaka of Visakhapatnam district left three people dead and several others injured after an APSRTC bus collided with a stationary lorry on a national highway during the early hours of Sunday.
According to preliminary information, the bus was travelling from Rajamahendravaram to Parvathipuram with around 30 passengers on board. The accident occurred near Srinagar in Gajuwaka at about 4 am when the driver reportedly failed to notice a lorry parked along the roadside and crashed into it from behind.
The impact of the collision was severe, completely damaging the front portion of the bus. Rescue teams and police personnel rushed to the spot soon after receiving information about the incident and began relief operations.
The deceased were identified as bus driver Rambabu and a passenger named Eswaramma. Another woman also lost her life in the accident, while her identity was yet to be confirmed at the time of reporting.
Seven passengers sustained serious injuries in the crash. Emergency responders shifted the injured victims to King George Hospital in Visakhapatnam for advanced medical treatment.
Police officials secured the accident site and initiated an investigation to determine the exact cause of the collision. A case has been registered by Gajuwaka police, and further inquiries are underway.
The incident has once again raised concerns about road safety and the risks associated with parked heavy vehicles on busy highways, especially during night and early morning travel hours.
