High demand for skilled human resources in international market: NITTTR Director Prof Usha Nateshan

Chennai, Jan 27: “There is a growing demand for recognition of Technical and Vocational Education (TVET) institutional qualification across borders due to a large number of emerging factors such as increasing economic globalization, significant migration flows, increasing international labour market opportunities for the highly skilled and the growth in the international trade and services,” said Director of National Institute of Technical Teachers Training and Research (NITTTR) Prof Usha Nateshan.
Delivering the presidential address at the 26-day programme on “Strengthening Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Systems to meet the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of United Nations” organized by NITTTR under the Ministry of Human Resource Development of Govt of India here on Friday, Prof Usha Nateshan said that there is a need for well-trained skilled workers, technicians, engineers, scientists, managers and technologists to meet the growing demands of industrialization. Stating that many developing countries are not having appropriate technical institutions to meet the human resource demands of the independent country, Prof Usha remarked that India is one of the largest human resource developers not only to meet the country’s demands but also to meet the global needs, possible due to planning of educational policy, approving private public partnership, establishing national councils, commissions, accreditation bodies, technical teacher training institutes especially for technical education, direct central assistance, technical universities. Prof Usha also talked about the change in life styles to achieve sustainable goals. Delivering the Inaugural address, Chief Executive Officer of Naan Mudhalvan of Tamil Nadu Skill Development Corporation (TNSDC) Dr M Jayaprakashan emphasized on the need of skilling, reskilling and upskilling and discussed the need of vocational skills, soft skills along with the technical skills. Deliberating on the objectives of the programme, Course Director and ITEC Coordinator and Professor of Electrical, Electronics and Communication Engineering and Head of the Centre for International Affairs Prof G Kulanthaivel said that a sustainable and inclusive TVET would mean a quality TVET delivery and implementation.
This is the direction promoted by various educational institutions and organizations in ensuring TVET’s future in the field of education and training monitored by UNESCO and the modules were developed to meet the planning needs of TVET education planners, administrators, heads, faculty and other officials. Stating that the Programme would be of great use in planning and developing TVET institutes, industrial training institutes, polytechnics, engineering colleges and technical universities. Prof. Kulanthaivel said that 22 participants from 19 countries were attending the Programme. Er DV Suryanarayana also spoke on the occasion.
