Tensions escalated in the Telangana Assembly as 24 BRS MLAs were suspended following persistent disruptions during the ongoing budget session. Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar announced the suspension, stating that the members were obstructing proceedings and preventing meaningful discussion.

The protest began early in the session when BRS legislators raised allegations of illegal mining linked to a company associated with Minister Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy’s family. They demanded the formation of a House committee to investigate the matter and called for the minister’s removal from the cabinet.

Despite repeated appeals to maintain order, the opposition members continued their agitation. They stood in protest while bills were being introduced, shouted slogans, clapped loudly, and gathered near the Speaker’s podium, bringing the House to a standstill for several hours.

Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy responded by stating that the government was open to discussing any issue with the Speaker’s approval. He urged members to allow the Assembly to function smoothly and assured that all concerns could be addressed through proper debate.

The Speaker also offered the protesting members a chance to participate in the proceedings if they returned to their seats. However, BRS leaders, including Harish Rao, insisted that they would cooperate only if a committee was formed and they were allowed to speak on the allegations made against them.

With no resolution in sight and disruptions continuing, Minister Sridhar Babu moved a motion seeking suspension of the protesting members. The Speaker approved the motion, leading to the suspension of 24 MLAs until the end of the budget session.

Following the announcement, the suspended members staged protests and walked out of the Assembly, further highlighting the deepening political rift between the ruling government and the opposition.
