In a major anti corruption operation, officials from the Anti Corruption Bureau arrested a Circle Inspector and Sub Inspector in Rangareddy district while they were accepting a bribe. The incident took place at the Shamshabad Airport Outpost Police Station, exposing serious allegations of misconduct within the department.
According to investigators, the officers allegedly demanded money from a man involved in a fake education certificates case. The accused, who was out on bail, was required to mark his attendance at the police station every Sunday. Hoping to get relief from this condition, he approached the officers requesting an early filing of the charge sheet.
Officials said the CI and SI initially demanded a large amount and later agreed to a reduced sum, warning that failure to pay could lead to further trouble, including implicating family members. Disturbed by the threats, the victim approached the ACB, which then planned a trap to catch the officers in the act.
On Tuesday evening, when the Sub Inspector was accepting part of the bribe amount, ACB officials moved in and caught him red handed. Noticing the situation, the Circle Inspector attempted to flee but was chased down and apprehended after a dramatic pursuit.
Both officers have been taken into custody and will be produced before the ACB court, officials confirmed. The case has drawn attention to ongoing efforts to curb corruption within law enforcement agencies.
In a separate incident, an Associate Dean from Professor Jayashankar Telangana Agricultural University was also caught by ACB officials while accepting a bribe related to issuing a seed license. The official was arrested and presented before the court, further highlighting the bureau’s continued crackdown on corruption across sectors.
