CPI Secures Mayor Post in Kothagudem Corporation Creating Telangana First
For the first time in Telangana CPI is set to lead a municipal corporation as Kothagudem mayor post goes to the party following a power sharing agreement with Congress.

- CPI wins historic mayor position.
- Kothagudem corporation sees power sharing.
- Congress focuses on deputy mayor post.
A new political chapter has begun in Telangana with the CPI set to occupy a municipal corporation mayor seat for the first time. The newly formed Kothagudem Municipal Corporation in Bhadradri Kothagudem district has emerged as a milestone for the party.
The corporation has sixty divisions with CPI and Congress winning twenty two seats each while BRS secured eight. As no party reached the required majority negotiations became inevitable to form the leadership.
After state level discussions between CPI and Congress an agreement was reached to share power. As per the understanding CPI will hold the mayor post for two and a half years while Congress will take over the deputy mayor position during the same period.
The decision has generated excitement among CPI cadres especially as the party is marking its centenary year. Party leaders say this achievement is symbolic as CPI has never held a mayor position in Telangana before though it had such representation earlier in united Andhra Pradesh.
Discussions within CPI have intensified over the choice of mayor. Multiple names are under consideration and senior leaders have held meetings in Kothagudem to arrive at a consensus reflecting social balance and party priorities.
On the other hand Congress has begun focused efforts to finalise its candidate for the deputy mayor post. Senior leaders are holding consultations with potential contenders as the party aims to strengthen its presence in the corporation administration.
With both parties working to finalise leadership roles Kothagudem is witnessing heightened political activity. The power sharing arrangement is being seen as a strategic experiment that could influence future urban political alliances in Telangana.
