In a significant verdict, a court in Karimnagar has sentenced 15 individuals to life imprisonment in connection with the murder of Bojja Tirupati, a local fishermen association leader.

The judgment was delivered by District Principal Judge Shivakumar after a detailed trial into the case, which dates back to April 2019. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 1500 on each of the convicted individuals.

The incident stemmed from a long standing dispute over fishing rights in village water bodies. Tensions between rival groups escalated, eventually leading to a violent confrontation that claimed Tirupati’s life.

According to the prosecution, Tirupati, who served as the president of the local fishermen society in Chamanapalli village, was brutally attacked by members of an opposing group. He was assaulted with stones and strangled using a cloth, leading to his death.

The court noted the severity of the crime and the coordinated nature of the attack while pronouncing the sentence. In addition to the 15 convicted adults, one accused identified as a minor will face trial under the juvenile justice system.

The verdict brings closure to a case that had remained under legal scrutiny for several years and highlights the consequences of escalating local disputes into violence.
