The Telangana government has kickstarted an ambitious riverfront development project along the Musi River, with the foundation stone for the Omkareshwara Temple set to be laid today.

Chief Minister Revanth Reddy will lead the ceremony at Manchirevula in Gandipet mandal, marking the beginning of a large scale initiative aimed at transforming the Musi riverfront into a cultural and spiritual hub.

The project is part of a broader plan to develop a 55 kilometer stretch from the western reservoirs to Pratapsingaram in the east. Authorities envision the area as a symbol of communal harmony, with plans for multiple religious structures along the river.

Alongside the temple, the government has proposed building a mosque near Puranapul, a gurudwara in Gowliguda, and a church in Nagole, reflecting an inclusive development approach.

The Omkareshwara Temple itself will be constructed over eight acres near historic temples, with architectural guidance from Sringeri Sharada Peetham. The sanctum is planned at a height of 64 feet, making it one of the largest in the state.

Infrastructure around the temple will include parking space for two thousand vehicles, improved road connectivity from the Outer Ring Road, and enhanced visitor facilities.

A unique feature of the project is the proposed dam across the Musi River to maintain water levels. Plans also include developing an island in the river with a towering Shiva statue, along with boating and park facilities to attract visitors.

The total project cost is estimated at around seven hundred crore rupees, with funding expected through a mix of government support and private contributions.

The foundation ceremony, scheduled for early morning, will also be attended by spiritual leaders, adding significance to the launch of this landmark project.
