In a significant medical milestone, doctors at Osmania General Hospital have successfully performed a rare liver transplant on an 18 month old child suffering from Glycogen Storage Disease. The procedure, considered highly complex especially in such young patients, marks a major achievement for a government hospital.

The child, weighing around 10 kilograms, received a portion of the liver donated by his father. The surgery lasted nearly 14 hours, involving a highly skilled team of surgeons and specialists who worked with precision to ensure a positive outcome.

Hospital officials confirmed that the child is currently stable and recovering well after the operation. This case stands out as such advanced transplant procedures are rarely conducted in government-run hospitals due to the complexity and resources required.

Importantly, the entire treatment was carried out free of cost under the Aarogyasri health scheme, offering financial relief to the family while ensuring access to critical care.

State Health Minister Damodar Raja Narasimha praised the medical team for their dedication and expertise, calling the successful transplant a proud moment for public healthcare services in Telangana.
