Passengers using Secunderabad railway station can expect a completely transformed travel experience soon, as redevelopment work gathers pace with a December deadline in sight. Officials say the project has already reached around sixty percent completion and is progressing steadily.
The station, one of the busiest in Hyderabad handling nearly one and a half lakh passengers daily, is being redesigned to match airport level standards. With an investment of about seven hundred crore rupees, the focus is on improving passenger comfort while easing congestion.
A major highlight of the project is the two level air concourse system. The lower level will feature spacious waiting areas, while the upper level will house food courts, retail outlets, and rest zones. This arrangement is expected to reduce crowding on platforms and allow smoother movement for passengers boarding trains.
Connectivity is another key improvement. The station will be directly linked to Secunderabad East and West metro stations through dedicated skywalks. This will allow passengers to move seamlessly between metro and railway services without stepping into road traffic, saving time and improving safety.
Authorities are also focusing on sustainability as part of the redevelopment. Plans include installation of a solar power plant, electric vehicle charging stations, sewage treatment systems, and rainwater harvesting facilities to make the station more eco friendly.
Separate entry and exit points are being designed to avoid overcrowding and ensure better flow of passengers. Officials believe these upgrades will significantly enhance operational efficiency and overall travel experience.
The redevelopment is part of a larger effort to modernize railway infrastructure across Telangana. Several stations, including Hyderabad Nampally, are being upgraded under the Amrit Bharat Station scheme, reflecting a broader push toward improved public transport facilities in the state.
