In a major boost to healthcare access, the Telangana government has approved the establishment of 79 new dialysis centres across the state, offering significant relief to kidney patients who depend on regular treatment.

The expansion is expected to add 416 new beds, improving capacity and reducing the burden on existing facilities. Officials said the move aims to ensure that dialysis services are available closer to patients, especially in rural and tribal regions.

Currently, many patients travel long distances for treatment, often facing delays and financial strain. To address this, the government is planning to set up one dialysis centre for every 25 kilometres, making services more accessible and reducing waiting times.

The new centres will be developed under a public private partnership model, following a hub and spoke system. Major hospitals in Hyderabad, including NIMS, Osmania, and Gandhi hospitals, will serve as central hubs providing clinical supervision and technical support.

Remote districts such as Mulugu, Jayashankar Bhupalpally, and Asifabad have been prioritised for the new facilities. Each centre will be equipped with 5 to 10 dialysis machines to handle patient demand efficiently.

In addition to the new centres, the government has also decided to strengthen existing infrastructure. Around 155 new machines will be installed in the current 67 dialysis centres to further enhance treatment capacity.

Officials believe that with more beds and machines, patients will experience shorter waiting periods and faster response in emergency situations. The expansion is also expected to reduce the need for patients to travel to distant cities for regular dialysis.

Authorities have directed the Telangana Medical Services Infrastructure Development Corporation to expedite the tender process so that the centres can become operational at the earliest.

The initiative marks a significant step towards improving public healthcare services in the state, ensuring that life saving dialysis treatment becomes more accessible and efficient for thousands of patients.
