Apple Brings New Call Screening Tool to iPhone Users with iOS 26
With the new iOS 26 update, Apple brings an intelligent call screening feature that filters unknown callers, asks their purpose and helps users avoid spam and fraud calls effectively

Unwanted calls and spam have become a growing concern for smartphone users, but Apple is now stepping in with a practical solution. With the rollout of iOS 26, iPhone users are getting a smarter way to handle unknown callers without constantly interrupting their day.
At the heart of this update is a feature designed to act like a virtual assistant for your phone. Instead of letting every unknown number ring through, the system quietly steps in and screens the call before it reaches you. This approach is aimed at reducing the risk of fraud attempts, including fake delivery agents or scammers posing as bank officials.
The feature, known as Screen Unknown Callers, works in a simple but effective way. When a call comes in from an unfamiliar number, your iPhone does not immediately alert you. Instead, it automatically asks the caller to state their name and the reason for calling. This response is then converted into text and shown on your screen, allowing you to decide whether the call is worth answering.
What makes this system useful is the control it gives to users. You can choose to accept the call, decline it, or send it to voicemail based on the information provided. Meanwhile, the caller remains unaware that their call is being screened, which keeps the interaction seamless and discreet.
Apple has positioned this feature as a protective layer rather than a strict blocker. Instead of cutting off all unknown calls, it gives genuine callers a chance to explain themselves while filtering out suspicious or irrelevant ones. This balance makes it especially useful for users who still expect important calls from unknown numbers.
Enabling the feature is straightforward. Users need to open Settings, navigate to Apps, select Phone and then find the Screen Unknown Callers option. By turning on the Ask Reason for Calling setting, the feature becomes active immediately. Once enabled, every unknown caller will be prompted to introduce themselves before the phone alerts you.
With spam and scam calls rising sharply, this addition in Apple’s latest software update offers a timely upgrade. It not only improves convenience but also strengthens user safety by ensuring that only relevant calls make it through.
As smartphones continue to play a central role in daily communication, features like these show how software updates can go beyond performance improvements and directly address real world user frustrations.
