Apple May Unveil Curved Display iPhone for 20th Anniversary

Reports suggest Apple is preparing a redesigned iPhone with quad curved display, slimmer panel technology and possible under display components as part of its 2027 anniversary innovation strategy

As Apple approaches a major milestone, fresh leaks suggest the company could be preparing one of its most visually distinct iPhones yet. The year 2027 will mark two decades since the first iPhone was introduced, and expectations are building around what the company might unveil to celebrate the occasion.

According to recent reports, Apple is exploring a new display design that could redefine how its smartphones look and feel. Unlike previous models, the upcoming anniversary edition is rumored to feature a quad curved display, where all four edges of the screen gently curve. This would be a first for Apple, which has so far avoided fully curved panels even as several competitors experimented with similar designs.

The display is reportedly being developed in collaboration with Samsung, a long time supplier of advanced smartphone panels. One of the key changes under discussion is the removal of the polarizer layer in the screen. While not entirely new in the industry, this approach could help reduce thickness and improve power efficiency, potentially making the device slimmer and more battery friendly.

The curved edges are expected to be subtle rather than dramatic, focusing more on ergonomics and visual refinement than flashy design. Apple has already been moving in this direction. Starting with recent models like the iPhone 15, the company introduced slightly rounded edges for better grip, and later refined the feel further with smoother materials in newer Pro variants.

Beyond the display, there are also indications that Apple is working toward a cleaner, uninterrupted screen. Industry chatter points to efforts to move components of the Dynamic Island beneath the display, potentially paving the way for a near all screen design. While achieving this fully remains technically challenging, incremental steps are already visible. Early leaks tied to the iPhone 18 Pro Max suggest the Dynamic Island could shrink noticeably, with some Face ID elements possibly shifting under the panel.

If these changes come together, the anniversary iPhone could stand out not just within Apple’s lineup but across the broader smartphone market. A combination of quad curved glass and a flat middle frame may give it a premium, futuristic appearance, something already seen in select flagship devices from other brands.

For Apple, landmark anniversaries have often been an opportunity to introduce bold ideas. While none of these details are officially confirmed yet, the direction points toward a device that blends design innovation with incremental technological shifts rather than a single dramatic leap.

With more than a year to go before 2027, the final shape of this special edition iPhone remains uncertain. However, if even part of these reports proves accurate, Apple could be preparing a device that signals its next phase of smartphone design evolution.
