India Emerges as Major iPhone Production Hub as Apple Expands Manufacturing Strategy

India is rapidly becoming one of the most important manufacturing bases for iPhones as Apple continues to reshape its global production strategy. The technology giant has sharply increased its manufacturing operations in the country, turning India into a key hub in its worldwide supply chain.

Recent reports indicate that Apple assembled around 55 million iPhones in India during 2025. The figure represents a major jump compared with 36 million units produced in the country in 2024. With this growth, nearly one out of every four iPhones sold globally is now being manufactured in India.

The expansion reflects Apple’s broader plan to diversify its production network and reduce its reliance on China. For years, most iPhones were produced there, but trade tensions, tariffs and supply chain uncertainties have encouraged the company to spread manufacturing across multiple countries.

India has emerged as a strong alternative in this shift. Several iPhone models launched for global markets are now assembled in Indian factories. Devices built in the country are also being exported to different regions, including the United States, demonstrating the growing importance of India in Apple’s production ecosystem.

Despite the shift, China still remains Apple’s largest manufacturing center. However, India’s role is steadily expanding each year as the company continues to invest in facilities and strengthen its local supply chain.

Government policies have also played a crucial role in encouraging global companies to manufacture in India. One of the most significant initiatives is the Production Linked Incentive scheme, which offers financial incentives to companies that manufacture electronics locally and increase exports. The program has attracted major technology firms and helped boost the country’s electronics manufacturing sector.

The policy environment has encouraged several global tech companies to expand operations in India. Alongside Apple, firms such as Microsoft and Google have also shown increasing interest in leveraging the country’s growing manufacturing ecosystem and improving supply chain resilience.

Apple works with multiple manufacturing partners to produce iPhones in India. Key partners include Foxconn, Tata Electronics and Pegatron, which operate large facilities across different parts of the country. These factories assemble a range of models for both domestic sales and international shipments.

Production lines in India currently handle newer models as well as earlier generations of iPhones. Reports suggest that devices from the iPhone 17 series are being assembled alongside earlier models such as the iPhone 15 and iPhone 16, ensuring a steady supply to global markets.

With investments continuing to grow, industry observers believe India’s role in Apple’s global manufacturing network will become even stronger in the coming years. The rapid rise of iPhone production in the country highlights how India is positioning itself as a major player in the global electronics supply chain.
